There are many problems with how business are run. They do perform a valuable function in society but informed consumer decision can help with ethics.

Idea details
Business performs a valuable role in society but businesses that cut costs and externalise costs tend to make more profit and thus become more successful businesses. An idea could be to make it law so profits and ethics are a lawful requirement. Too much red tape might be a problem but I think that with people power we can change things as it is us as consumers who can ultimately decide the fate of companies.
Most people choose which products to buy based on price and brand but the important things such as ethical production can easily be missed or the information is not available.
